Nwagbuo to IR, sign Antonio Garay

Source: San Diego Tribune

First-year defensive tackle Ogemdi Nwagbuo, one of this season's most compelling success stories, has finally succumbed to an ankle injury that has bothered him much of the season.

Nwagbuo was replaced on the active roster by Antonio Garay, a former Chicago Bear who had been out of football and most recently a member of the New York Jets practice squad. He will wear #71.

It is not known when Garay (6-3, 303) will be able to contribute. He did play for the Bears when Chargers defensive coordinator Ron Rivera and defensive line coach Don Johnson were there.

Nwagbuo is a Mt. Miguel High School product and was undrafted out of college in 2008. He was out of football, working at a car rental company when he was signed to the Chargers' practice squad last December. He made the roster out of training camp and had played in every game since.
